On June 14th, 2014 — Flag Day and the 239th birthday of the United States Army — Able Ebenezer Brewing Company opened their doors. Carl Soderberg, Zach Rand and Mike Frizzelle, all former Army officers, and their fourth partner, Jim Wilson, welcomed New Hampshire Governor Maggie Hassan and members of the Merrimack Chamber of Commerce to kick off their opening day.
We met the group back in January, when they had all committed to leaving their jobs to start the brewery and had found an empty industrial space in Merrimack to convert into Able Ebenezer Brewing Company. What was once a blank slate has been transformed into a welcoming tasting room and retail space. A book shelf filled with Carl, Zach, Mike and Jim’s favorite books invites guests to relax and stay a while, either on the couch or at the white pine bar or tables. Former co-workers came by to support the guys, and Michael Hauptly-Pierce of the Tap Handle Show jumped behind the bar to help out during the busiest hours.
We were there for six hours and the crowd never let up. Following their story for these past six months has been very inspiring and it was amazing to see the brewery take shape. We look forward to checking in with them again in the coming months and stopping in to fill up our growlers at this awesome brewery.
We could not have had such a successful shooting day without help from our friend Andrew Stockwell, who got easily over sixty appearance release forms signed.
